Ambassador Kirby hosts Reception for Representatives of Religious Groups

Ambassador Michael Kirby held a reception at his residence for representatives of all local religious groups in Moldova on Thursday, January 18, to discuss issues relating to religious freedom.
Representatives of three Orthodox churches, evangelical denominations, the Muslim and Jewish communities, and other registered religious organizations were in attendance. The Government of Moldova’s State Service for Religious Affairs representatives were also at hand. During a session that lasted well over two hours, Ambassador Kirby engaged all present in a lively discussion ranging from the role and status of religion in the United States, to specific issues such as property restoration, the religion law before Parliament, religious tolerance, and the place of minority religions in Moldovan society.
