U.S. supports Moldovan Border Security through officer training

January 18, 2008

Thirty Moldovan law enforcement officers attended a U.S.-sponsored Border Enforcement and Interdiction Training Program January 14-18, 2008 . U.S. Ambassador to Moldova Michael Kirby participated in the Program graduation ceremony on January 18, 2008 at the Moldovan Border Guards Service headquarters.

The training was designed to help Moldovan law enforcement enhance the security of state borders and to fight transnational crime. It was taught by officers of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement and included specialized courses, such as passenger document analysis; behavior analysis and observational techniques; interview and examination techniques; and money laundering fundamentals. Officers from the Moldovan Border Guards Service, the Moldovan Ministry of Interior, and the Moldovan Customs Service attended.
