On Friday, January 26, 2007, a Press Conference was held in the U.S. Embassy's Information Resource Center (IRC) Conference Room, to discuss Moldova's eligibility for the second stage of assistance from the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC).

Deputy Prime Minister Zinaida Greceanii, MCC Vice President for Operations Mr. John Hewko, and U.S. Ambassador to Moldova Michael J. Kirby all gave remarks at the press event. Each stressed the need for the government, civil society, and people of Moldova to get involved in the process of formulating a proposal that will benefit the whole of Moldova.

The four-member MCC delegation was in Moldova from January 24 – 27 to discuss Moldova's eligibility for Millennium Challenge Account (MCA) Compact status, which could make large funds available to assist Moldova in development and poverty reduction projects. Moldova has already received funds through the MCA Threshold Program, to assist in anti-corruption efforts.
