Statement from the U.S. Embassy on the First U.S.-Moldova Bilateral Political-Military Working Group Meeting

The U.S. Embassy was pleased to participate in the first meeting of the U.S.-Moldova Bilateral Political-Military Working Group, hosted by Defense Minister Plesca. The inaugural meeting, held on Tuesday February 7, set the stage for more effective bilateral cooperation in the security sphere.
The objective of the political-military working group is to improve bilateral communications between the United States and Moldova, as well as to improve internal communications between various ministries and departments working on political-military issues. In her opening remarks, Ambassador Hodges emphasized the importance of coordination between government ministries to Moldova’s efforts to achieve European integration and a closer relationship with NATO.
The working group will meet regularly to discuss a broad range of political-military issues of interest to both sides, including defense reform, terrorism, border control, and relations with NATO.
