March 22, 2012
As part of the ongoing partnership program between the State of North Carolina and the Republic of Moldova, a team of dentists from the North Carolina National Guard and a team of dentists from the University of North Carolina traveled to Moldova to provide free dental care to Moldovan children. Colonel Glenn Garland and Captain Salail Sodh lead the North Carolina National Guard team, and Dr. Stephen Mackler and Dr. Robert Kriegsman lead the University of North Carolina team.
These two teams of dentists are providing dental treatments to children from the Straseni orphanage, the Special School for Deaf Children in Chisinau, the Ialoveni boarding school, and the Jewish centers in Balti and Chisinau. In total, over 300 children will receive vital dental treatments.
The two American dental teams are being ably assisted by their Moldovan colleagues, Dr. Ion Lupan, Dean of the Dentistry Department, and Dr. Oleg Solomon, Deputy Dean of the Dentistry Department at Moldova State Medical and Pharmaceutical University "N. Testemitanu," and Dr. Diana Uncuta.
This current dental mission was coordinated by the Bilateral Affairs Office of the U.S. Embassy in Moldova.
