AMERICAN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE IN MOLDOVA LAUNCHED

A tangible symbol of growing U.S.-Moldovan ties in the economic sphere, the American Chamber of Commerce in Moldova (AMCHAM) was formally established at a ceremony held on Monday, March 27, 2006 at the headquarters of the Moldovan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI).
Like the 104 other AMCHAMs operating in 91 countries around the world, the American Chamber of Commerce in Moldova is a non-governmental association of private businesses and business people. Its objectives are to promote American trade and investment in Moldova and to work with Moldovan government and business leaders to foster a more favorable foreign trade and investment environment.

The American Ambassador to Moldova, Heather Hodges, attended the founding, as did the President of the MCCI, Gheorghe Cucu. John Maxemchuk, General Director of Sun Communications, was elected as the provisional president of the Board of Directors. Ambassador Hodges was invited to serve as honorary president of the organization.
