American and Moldovan psychologists share experience in assisting traumatized persons

April 18, 2008

Psychological Assistance to Persons with Traumatic Experiences was the focus of a seminar in Chisinau April 16-18. The seminar was organized by the Bilateral Affairs Office of the U.S. Embassy in Moldova under the umbrella of the NC-MD Bilateral Affairs Committee in partnership with the Winrock Foundation in Moldova.

The seminar focused on treating consequences of domestic violence and was attended by practicing psychologists from the Winrock Regional Support Centers across Moldova, La Strada, IOM, and UNDP. The seminar trainers were Dr. Jane Perrin, Ph.D. and Dr. Laura Rhoads, Ph.D., from North Carolina.

This was Dr. Perrin’s second visit for to Moldova; she visited the country in June 2006 on a similar project. Dr. Laura Rhoads accompanied Dr. Perrin to share information with her Moldovan colleagues on various treatment techniques. Hailing the opportunity to exchange professional experience, the visiting American psychologists noted that the United States and Moldova are partners in addressing problems related to domestic violence, given the relative recency of attention to these issues in women’s psychology in the U.S.
