U.S. and Moldova Extend Letter of Agreement on Drugs Control and Law Enforcement (22 May 2008)

U.S. Ambassador Michael D. Kirby and Deputy Prime Minister Victor Stepaniuc signed the Seventh Amendment to the Bilateral Letter of Agreement on Narcotics Control and Law Enforcement between the Government of Moldova and the Government of the United States.

The ceremony was held on May 22, 2008 in the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister. 

Under the bilateral Letter of Agreement, the U.S. Government provides technical and material assistance to the Moldovan law enforcement to help improve their professional performance. The current Amendment provides that the Government of Moldova will receive over 1.5 million dollars in assistance to the law enforcement. A significant amount of assistance will be directed to the functioning of the Center to Combat Trafficking in Persons in Chisinau.
