Ambassador Opens Renovated Court in Comrat

Ambassador Asif Chaudhry and Deputy Prime Minister Valentin Mejinschi cut the traditional ribbon to mark the reopening of the district court in Comrat, Gagauzia on Friday, June 5.  The court was completely renovated and re-equipped under the U.S. Government project "Moldova Governance Threshold Country Program".  The Comrat court was the third such court to be renovated in Moldova under this program.  The other renovated courts are located in Ungheni and Rezina.  A number of high-level Moldovan government officials, the Deputy Bashkan of Gagauzia, as well as a U.S. federal judge were in attendance.  Ambassador Chaudhry told those present that the court now has what it needs to do the best possible job.  The physical changes introduced into the building include courtrooms with optimal conditions where citizens can witness proceedings, a modern information technology system with the capability to publish court decisions on the Internet, copiers, safety features and so on.
