On September 19, the U.S. Embassy donated 29 pallets (1 pallet=about 700 liters) of potable water to some charitable organizations and communities in Moldova.
The Association “Batrinete fara tristete” in Chetrosu, Anenii Noi, received 1 pallet. This is an NGO, which takes care of about 50 people of advanced age from several surrounding villages.
The raion hospital in Anenii Noi received 4 pallets. This hospital has a capacity of 188 beds. This donation is the result of a meeting that Ambassador Michael Kirby had with Dr. Victor Cibotaru, Chief Physician of the hospital.
The Mayoralty of Vulcanesti received 24 pallets. During discussions with the Mayor, the Embassy had found out that an important part of available natural water resources did not meet sanitary standards. The Mayoralty committed to distribute the water among local social institutions, including kindergartens, schools, the raion hospital and the center “Zabota”, which takes care of children with disabilities. Altogether, the number of beneficiaries in Vulcanesti could reach up to 3000 persons.
