The children at the Straseni Boarding School will have a continuous supply of drinking water thanks to a water storage trailer that was donated to the school by the Embassy of the United States in Moldova. Several embassy officials, the school director, teachers, a large group of the school’s pupils and media witnessed the official ceremony.
Four and a half meters in length and more than two meters in height and width, the trailer holds approximately 1,600 liters of water. It will provide drinking water to the students and faculty at the school since the school has severe water storage problems.
The donation of the trailer is a joint U.S. Department of Defense and Department of State project, made possible through the Humanitarian Assistance-Excess Property program administered by United States European Command, which is headquartered in Stuttgart, Germany.
The trailer was brought to Moldova from a State Department storage facility in Antwerp, Holland, after the U.S. Embassy's General Services Office notified the Bilateral Affairs Office (BAO) that it was available. The BAO then identified the need for it at the Straseni Boarding School.
The BAO is overseen by a North Carolina National Guard officer. North Carolina and Moldova have had a formal bilateral relationship since 1999, and they cooperate in a wide range of fields, including education, health care, government reform, the arts and military issues.
