Ambassador Attends Event to Mark the Launching of Moldova’s Threshold Country Program Implementation Phase

On Tuesday, October 9, the Millennium Challenge Corporation’s Threshold Country Program (TCP) held an official ceremony to launch its implementation phase in Moldova.  U.S. Ambassador to Moldova, Michael Kirby and First Deputy Prime Minister of Moldova, Zinaida Greceanii officiated during the ceremony at the LeoGrand Convention Center.

A large number of representatives from civil society and the media were present at the event.  After speeches by Mrs. Grecianii and Ambassador Kirby, there was an lively discussion on the issues of corruption and reforms with the audience.

The TCP is a $24.7 million dollar program, funded by the U.S. Government through the Millennium Challenge Corporation and managed by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The goal of the TCP is to promote good governance, reduce corruption and improve public sector service delivery in Moldova.

The TCP agreement was signed by the Government of Moldova and the United States Government in December 2006 and will be implemented through March, 2009.
