U.S. Embassy Donates Vehicles to CCTIP
To mark the occasion of Justice Professionals Day, on October 20 the U.S. Embassy donated two new vehicles valued at 35,000 USD to the Section of Preventing and Combating Trafficking in Persons of the Prosecutor General's Office (PGO), a specialized prosecutorial unit which is part of the Center for Combating Trafficking in Persons (CCTIP). This donation is part of the U.S. Government's ongoing efforts to assist the Government of Moldova in combating human trafficking. In addition to the vehicle donation, the Embassy, in cooperation with the CCTIP and the PGO, has undertaken the renovation of office space for the prosecutor's specialized section at the CCTIP as well as the installation of a secure IT system to connect this section with the main PGO’s departmental databases. These improvements will enable the specialized prosecutors to work more closely with the CCTIP investigators while maintaining full interaction with the PGO. The renovation to the physical space was completed in August 2009, and the installation of the IT system is expected to be finished by November 2009.
