Ambassador Kirby Visits Balti
Speaks at American Corner

November 7, 2006

On November 7, Ambassador Michael D. Kirby and Mrs. Sara Kirby traveled to the north of Moldova, making stops in Chiscareni, Balti and Singerei.  The Ambassador visited a number of US-funded projects in the region and had several meetings. Mrs. Kirby also visited two projects related to anti-trafficking in persons.
In Chiscareni the Ambassador toured a community center that was recently renovated by the locality in conjunction with the Local Government Reform Project (LGRP), a USAID-funded project, and then moved on to Balti where he met with the Mayor.  Later, he toured a sunflower seed factory and had lunch with Peace Corps volunteers who are working in the area.  In the afternoon, the Ambassador gave a talk related to International Education Week to a group of university students at the Balti American Corner.  Finally, Ambassador Kirby visited the Balti Chamber of Commerce and then moved on to another USAID-funded project in Singerei.
