DCM Kelly Keiderling offered congratulations to eight Moldovan mayors before they traveled to North Carolina as part of the Open World exchange program. Speaking at their pre-departure orientation session on November 27, she stressed the value of exchanging ideas directly with professional counterparts in the U.S. DCM Keiderling emphasized that this program provides the mayors with the opportunity to see the American system of governance with their own eyes and apply those parts of it which may be useful to their city and region, while also educating the American people about Moldova.

The participants are all newly elected mayors from small towns in Moldova. Their ten-day program in North Carolina will center on meetings with state, local and federal government officials who will share their knowledge of the role of government and partnerships. To allow the mayors to experience American civic and cultural life, they will live with an American family, have the chance to attend a college basketball game and a Christmas Parade, as well as to observe the lighting of the town’s Christmas tree.
