In an interview to Radio Free Europe on December 12, Ambassador Kirby spoke about the numerous U.S. Government assistance programs to Moldova.  The Ambassador pointed out that one of the most important developments in 2007 was the Millennium Challenge Corporation Threshold Program for Moldova worth $24.7 million in technical and material assistance to fight corruption.  He also stressed that the Government of Moldova is currently developing a large-scale MCC Compact proposal that is aimed at addressing one or more of the major impediments to economic development in the country.  He mentioned the U.S. Government’s assistance to help Moldova to cope with the drought consequences this year.  The construction of a new Center for Combating Trafficking in Persons is another major project supported by the U.S. Government.  The Ambassador reiterated the U.S. Government’s commitment to continue supporting Moldova’s efforts to advance on the path of democratic reforms.
