U.S. Defense Agency Boosts Moldova Border Security
The U.S. government, through the Defense Threat Reduction Agency, recently donated approximately $23 million worth of equipment to Moldova's border police to help the country secure its borders from illegal trafficking in human beings, narcotics, arms and other contraband.

The U.S. Embassy joins the people of Moldova and the Jewish community in commemorating the 110th anniversary of the tragic 1903 pogrom which killed nearly 50 Moldovan Jews, and injured or displaced countless others.
U.S. Donates Disaster Response Vehicles
Today Ambassador Moser participated in a commemoration event on the "Day of the Rescuer" to remember those fallen in the line of duty. In conjunction with the event, the U.S. donated 11 disaster response vehicles to the Department of Civil Protection and Emergency Situations.

Commanding General of the North Carolina Army & Air National Guard Visits Moldova
The commanding general of the North Carolina Army & Air National Guard, Major General Greg Lusk, visited Moldova recently as part of the ongoing bilateral relationship between Moldova and North Carolina. During his visit, General Lusk met with Acting Minister of Defense Vitalie Marinuta, Commanding General of the Moldovan Armed Forces Brigadier General Vitalie Stoian, as well as several unit commanders of the Moldovan Army. »

U.S. Nurses Helping to Improve Moldovan Healthcare System
Two National Guard and three civilian nurses from North Carolina are sharing expertise this week with their Moldovan counterparts at the Ministries of Defense and Health. The American nurses are donating their time to work with the Ministry of Defense, the Military Hospital, the College of Medicine, the Nursing Association, and Straseni Medical personnel.

U.S. Sends 10 Moldovan Women to Regional Conference on Policing
Ten women police officers from Moldova recently participated in a U.S. Government-sponsored conference in Tbilisi, Georgia, to sharpen their leadership and practical police skills. The "Women in Policing" conference, held March 4-6, involved 140 female police officers from Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine, Armenia, and Azerbaijan.

U.S. Embassy Statement on Moldovan-Administered Latin-Script Schools in Transnistria
The U.S. Embassy in the Republic of Moldova commends the efforts of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Mission to Moldova to support the Transnistrian settlement process. The OSCE's recent report on Moldovan-Administered Latin-Script Schools in Transnistria contains recommendations that can facilitate education-focused working group discussions and progress between the two sides. Access to education is essential, and both Chisinau and Tiraspol should put the interests of children first to solve this problem. The U.S. Embassy views resolution of the Latin-script schools issue as an achievable objective that all parties in the 5+2 settlement process support.
