Secretary Marshall - the Order of Honor
January 10, 2012
North Carolina Secretary of State Elaine Marshall received the Government of Moldova's highest distinction awarded to foreign officials, the Order of Honor, in a ceremony at the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Washington on December 22. Moldovan Ambassador to the U.S. Igor Munteanu presented Secretary Marshall with the award, which cites Moldova's gratitude for the Secretary's "outstanding contribution in the framework of bilateral cooperation."
The award was given in recognition of Secretary Marshall’s decade of leadership as Co-Chair of the North Carolina/Moldova Bilateral Committee, and her work to facilitate the civilian aspect of the North Carolina/Moldova Partnership Program. Since its launch in 1998, the State Partnership Program has implemented projects that include bringing North Carolina dental professionals to Moldova to share expertise and provide free dental care at Moldovan orphanages, and developing laboratory facilities and medical libraries in Moldova with the support of North Carolina universities and community colleges.
Secretary Marshall stated, “I am humbled by this award, but it truly honors North Carolina and the many people and organizations across our great state that have devoted so much time and energy to projects to help the people of Moldova.”
