Press Release
The U.S. Embassy in Chisinau welcomes the March 23 statement by President Vladimir Voronin regarding Moldova’s participation in the Millennium Challenge Account (MCA) Threshold Program. That statement reaffirms that the government of Moldova is committed to making progress in the fight against corruption – the one criterion for eligibility for full MCA assistance that Moldova fails to meet.
In his statement, President Voronin called on the entire country to contribute to the fight against corruption, asking “our whole society – representatives of public administration, the opposition, the business community, and civil society – to actively participate in the implementation of the commitments taken in the framework of the Millennium Challenge Account.”
The U.S. Embassy applauds the President’s statement, and stands ready to support Moldova in this effort. The MCA program represents an historic opportunity for Moldova. We hope that all citizens – regardless of age, profession or political affiliation – will support the struggle to combat corruption and build a better future for this country.
