PRESS RELEASE

June 6, 2006

The U.S. Embassy is pleased to announce the arrival of the 18th group of U.S. Peace Corps Trainees to be sent to Moldova.  37 Trainees will arrive on Wednesday, June 7, at 7:30 pm at Chisinau airport.

The Trainees will have a 10-week Pre-Service Training, where they will study Romanian or Russian language, learn about Moldovan culture, and receive instruction to prepare them for teaching in Moldovan classrooms.  After the training, 20 of them will serve as TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) Volunteers and 17 as Health Education Volunteers. They will be placed at schools and universities throughout Moldova.

The first group of Americans to serve here as Peace Corps Volunteers arrived in 1993.  Since then over 600 Volunteers have served in Moldova.
