The U.S. Embassy in Chisinau is pleased to announce a visit of the United States Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld to Chisinau, Moldova. The visit will take place on June 26, 2004. Secretary Rumsfeld, who is the highest level American official to visit Moldova, will stop over in Chisinau en route to the NATO summit in Istanbul, Turkey.

While in Moldova, Secretary Rumsfeld will meet with Government officials, including President Vladimir Voronin and Minister of Defense Brigadier General Victor Gaiciuc. He will also meet Moldovan troops who have been and soon will be deployed in Iraq.

During his visit, Secretary Rumsfeld is expected to express appreciation for Moldova's support in the Global War on Terrorism and in Iraq.
