Remarks of Ambassador Heather M. Hodges at
HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE RENOVATION PROJECT EMERGENCY WARD RENOVATION, EDINET RAION HOSPITAL

February 3, 2004

Vice-Minister Turcan, Doctor Pulbere, honored guests,

it is my distinct pleasure to participate in the ribbon-cutting ceremony for this newly-renovated facility. This modest, $45,000 renovation project, represents an excellent investment in the health care for the people of the Edinet Raion. The new entrance to this facility is the most obvious and impressive aspect of this project. No longer must patients be awkwardly carried through the back door. Less obvious are some of the infrastructure upgrades to the plumbing, electrical, and sewage systems, which will serve this facility for many years to come.

Another important benefit of this project is that it will help Moldova to be better prepared to respond to manmade and natural disasters. The U.S. government has helped both the Ministry of Health and the Department of Exceptional Situations with several other projects which address this most requirement.

On behalf of the people of the United States of America, I wish you success and "Multa Sanatate"
