Former Ambassador Pamela Hyde Smith Speeches
Statement by the U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova Pamela Hyde Smith
Press Release
March 19, 2003
We are profoundly saddened by the news that fifteen young Moldovans have recently arrived in Baghdad, Iraq. While we respect the rights of all people to express their views, these young people are being used cynically by a brutal dictator. Their presence in Baghdad will not change Saddam Hussein’s history of defying and deceiving the international community or the coalition’s commitment to disarm him.
I beg the families and friends of these young people to do everything they can to urge them to return to Moldova immediately.
