Application process

Overview

Prior to scheduling their appointment on the online NIV Appointment System, applicants should complete the Electronic Visa Application Form DS-156 (EVAF) online in English and print it out.  If a question does not apply, write “none,”, “non-applicable,” or “n/a.”  Incomplete forms will not be accepted.  For links to additional forms which may need to be completed in certain situations please visit the Download Forms page.

Next, applicants should prepare all documentation necessary for their appointment.  For information about the documents you may need to bring, please visit the Supporting Documentation page.

After ensuring that all the necessary documentation is collected and available, applicants must pay a nonrefundable $131 visa application fee, payable in lei at any branch of Moldova Agroindbank. The US Embassy cannot accept payments in cash.

Only applicants applying for diplomatic visas and applicants participating in exchanges sponsored by the State Department's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs or USAID are exempt from this fee.

After payment of the fee, applicants must schedule an appointment online.  For additional information on this process, please visit the Appointments page.

On the day of the visa interview appointment, applicants should arrive no more than 15 minutes in advance of their scheduled appointment with all three pages of the DS-156 Form visa application, 5cm x 5cm color photograph, valid passport, receipt for payment of the application fee from any branch of Moldova Agroindbank, and supporting documentation (including  DS-157 Form and/or  DS-158 Form if applicable).

Visa interviews are conducted by consular officers only with those intending to travel. Third parties, including family, friends, or lawyers, are not allowed to be present at visa interviews, though exceptions may be granted for those people who need physical assistance.

Successful visa applicants normally receive their visas the following day.
