What is a visa?

A visa is issued by a U.S. Embassy or Consulate and entitles the holder to travel to the United States and apply for admission; it does not guarantee entry.  An immigration inspector at the port of entry determines the visa holder's eligibility for admission into the United States.

Nonimmigrant Visas

Moldovan citizens who want to visit the United States on a temporary basis must apply for a visa, although some holders of foreign passports may qualify for the Visa Waiver Program (VWP). More information at http://travel.state.gov/visa/temp/without/without_1990.html. Travelers born in the United States and those who hold dual citizenship with the United States must enter and depart the United States on U.S. passports. There are a wide variety of reasons for a non-immigrant visa, including tourism, business, medical treatment, and certain types of temporary work. The type of visa needed is defined by immigration law, and relates to the principal purpose of travel.  Please use the sidebar navigation panel to find additional information on what kind of visa you may need, and how to apply.

Immigrant Visas

If you wish to live in the United States permanently, you must apply for an immigrant visa. According to U.S. immigration law you may qualify under one of the four general categories: immediate relatives, family-based, employment-based and the Diversity Immigrant Visa Program, sometimes known as the "green card" lottery.
